Special File Downloader
From Gestaltipedia
For most of the Gestalt 2 users out there this won't be of much use, but for the ones who update external files (for this example lets say, dining menus) quite a bit and want an URL for those files that never changes the text below could be quite handy.. Since we are writing this page with a particular user in mind we will be demonstrating on their site, but the things we do will work on any Gestalt 2 based system.
Step 1) First things first, log-in to the toolkit. From here you will see the Add/Change panel, select Find & Edit Existing Articles
Step 2) Now we want to search for an article called Special File Downloader, this is what performs the redirect to the file that we want to download.
Step 3) Now that we have the article open we are ready to add a File Resource to it.
Step 4) On the File Resource panel enter whatever you want for the Link Text as it will not actually be visible when we are finished, for the file select your updated file that you want to place on the site. Click on the 'update' button and your file will be uploaded.
Step 5) After the file has been uploaded click the link to show the complete article, right click on the link that is shown on the page and select 'Copy Link Location' (important: this will vary depending on your web browser).
Step 6) Now that the link to the newly uploaded file is in your clipboard, we can edit the CUSTOMTAG. Click on it to bring up the properties for it, see where it says Redirection URL: this is where we want to past the link we just copied. After doing so click the 'update' button.
Step 7) We can now delete the file resource that we just created by pressing the red X on the right had side of the panel.
These next steps may or may not be needed
Step 8) Now we find where on our site the Special File Downloader is being linked from, this will vary from site to site but for this demonstration its located on our menu page.
Step 9) After you have found the link you will want to edit the text (if needed) to reflect that it's an updated file. To do this, you will want to click the edit specific elements on this page link.
Step 10) We are now in the text editor portion of a Gestalt 2 site, just click on the TEXT link in the upper left hand of the panel and it brings up the KTML editor. Here we can change the linking text.
Step 10.5) After editing what you want the text to say click the update button, then the publish button.
Step 11) Republish the pages that you would like the updated text to appear on and you are all done.
