Gestalt 2 Content Management Toolkit Documentation

This web site is a place to find information about the Gestalt 2 web content management toolkit. The site is a wiki, so tutorials and references are continual works in progress, to which anybody is invited to make a contribution to.

On this web site, we focus on:

  • The use of the system from the end-user's perspective,
  • The maintenance of a G2 installation for system administrators,
  • The deployment of the toolkit for development managers, and
  • The customization of a Gestalt site from the coder's point of view.

What is Gestalt 2?

Gestalt 2 is software developed to help you control your web site. It is a collection of components, written in Adobe ColdFusion which has been developed over the last ten years in response to common challenges faced by clients of Gestalt, Inc.

The toolkit takes a unique approach to solving problems in web site management; instead of defining specific types of information and roles for editing in the structure of the system, all definitions of the type of data stored, roles users can play in maintaining the site, availability of tools, site architecture, navigation, and function are defined using an open-ended database format and programming convention.

This allows a single web site to continually expand and evolve with the needs of the users, where many normal web management tools arbitrarily constrain the options users have at any given time to the developers' ideal impression of correct workflow, editing, and creative process.
